Skip Hire Common Questions
To help you, here are some of the questions we get asked regarding same day skip hire and waste removal. Please do contact our team if there is anything else you'd like to know about our skip hire or waste disposal services.
Q. Can I overfill the skip?
A. You can fill the skip up past the level load, as long as the waste is kept in towards the middle of the skip and is safe for the driver to net. Do not leave any waste sticking out the sides of the skip though as this can be dangerous on the road and will therefore not be allowed.
Q. How big is a skip?
A. Skips comes in various sizes and go by 'yard' measurements. Our skips come in three different sizes: 2 yard mini skips, which are our small skips, the next size up is our medium sized skips called a 3 yard mini skips and our largest skips are the 5 yard midi skips more suitable for larger volume waste projects. Click skip hire sizes for more information.
Q. Can I move the skips once they are delivered?
A. If you need a skip to be moved after the driver has delivered the skip, please make sure that it is moved into a position that the skip collection lorry can still get access to get on the skip to pick it up. Skip lorries need a minimum of 8’ width for access.
Q. How long can I have the skip for?
A. As a guide, skip hire period is 7 days. But we are not strict on this and will not pick up skip until you call us and arrange collection, which is within 2 days. You can also arrange collection of the skip when you order it.
Q. What access is needed for your skip lorries?
A. Our skip lorries need a minimum of 8’ width for access.
Q. Can a skip be put over my wall/fence?
A. This will need to be assessed by the driver as it is a combination of the height of the wall/fence and needing to be square on with the rear of the vehicle.
Q. What are the skip sizes?
A. The skip sizes are 2, 3 and 5 yard. For more on skip sizes, see: Which skip size do I need?
Q. How much notice do you need to deliver me a skip?
A. We only need 1 days notice to deliver skips. Although we can deliver skips on the same day depending on the time of day and how busy we are. We’d recommend you call Andover Mini Skip Hire on 01264 335511 as soon as you know you need to hire a skip.
Q. Can I have fires in the skip?
A. Absolutely not, under no circumstances can you have a fire in the skip.
Q. Does the cost of skip hire vary depending on the service/skip hire period?
A. No, the cost of skip hire does not vary. The cost is the same regardless of the service required.
Q. Are there any other hidden costs I should know about?
A. The tipping of the skip is included in the skip hire price. The only additional cost would be if a skip permit is required.
Q. What is a skip permit?
A. Skip permits are required if you want to put a skip on a public road or lane.
A. Skips can be left on roads and lanes with the correct road permits which we can arrange on your behalf. If a skip hire road permit is required it will cost £45+VAT with Hampshire County Council, who also serve Wiltshire and £55+VAT in the West Berkshire area. All permits have a £10 million public liability. Road permits can only be arranged for 3 yard mini skips and 5 yard midi skips, not 2 yard mini skips.
Q. How does the Wait & Load service work?
A. We will give you a 2 hour window for the driver to arrive, he will then wait 30 – 45mins with you and help you to load the skip before taking it away. Waste collection includes all domestic and commercial waste, with the exception of certain items. For more info, please see ‘What not to put in our skips’.
